One Thing I Listen to in My Car

Nothing.

Silence rebuilds me.

I am stimulated all day long by conversations, social media, music, weights crashing at the gym, projects, schedule, daily tasks, and of course driving itself.

The outside world a) doesn’t give a shit about me an b) my brain believes it is being attacked and bombarded constantly. Okay, maybe marketers and advertisers care about me, only for my attention (and money).

Driving to work in silence allows me to meditate on my essential tasks. My mind can awaken and ready itself. I care for it my giving it space.

I have never read ‘Quiet’ but I think if you were to label me i’d be an introverted extrovert. I’m outgoing. I look forward to great conversations and connecting with others. I love engaging with people and getting positivity into their lives.

But I sure as hell love my solitude and silence. Sometimes, the only place I can find that is behind the wheel of my rusted ’08 Volkswagen. I take what I can get.

There must be something about doing what’s natural to you. That seems obvious enough. But how many of us are taking part in things we don’t believe in deep down? I know for a fact that I feel better when I get alone time. Alive time. I reboot, revitalize, and recharge.

5 Minute Action

  1. Next time you get in your car, refrain from turning on the radio, music, podcasts, audiobooks, or whatever you listen to. Invite some silence into your life.
  2. Bring awareness to the activities that recharge you by writing down a few things you find relaxing.
  3. Schedule in 10 minutes for this “recharge activity/time” into your day.

It doesn’t seem like much, but I guarantee you that by giving your senses a break, stepping back from the hustle of your day, and getting some quiet time in, you will feel a lot better.
